• What are the different densities and strengths available?

  • Cellular concrete exhibits a much lighter density than most regular concrete. Typical plain concrete has a density of approximately 140 lb. / cu. ft. while cellular concrete densities range from 20 to 120 lb. / cu. ft.. Cellular concrete is an insulator and can be used in applications which require an insulating material that also exhibits some integrity and strength. At its lightest density, cellular concrete is still more stable and stronger than well compacted soil. When replacing soils, cellular concrete can be designed to provide whatever strengths and characteristics are needed for the project. Cellular concrete can be specified to easily exceed whatever compacted soil requirements are needed.

  • How fast does cellular concrete set up?

  • Typically, Geofill cellular concrete will hold its own weight after six hours and can be walked on within 24 hours. However, set times depend on many variables such as air temperature, humidity, mix design, etc..

  • How do I test cellular concrete to determine it is performing to specs?

  • Properties commonly tested using ASTM C495 are:

    • Density
    • Compressive Strength

Test procedures for cellular concrete are beyond the scope of this short document, however, MixOnSite representatives can assist you by furnishing descriptions of common tests.

  Lower Northwest Interceptor
Sacramento, CA
  Annular Space Grouting

This project consisted of a 19-mile sewage conveyance pipeline and pump station system that required micro-tunneling methods to install the new lines anywhere pipe could not be installed in an open-cut trench, such as under the Sacramento River or I-80.

The micro-tunneling operation was completed by filling the annular space around the pipe with Geofill LD cellular concrete to prevent corrosion and movement. This flowable material also reduced potential flotation or collapse of the carrier pipe.
